Khammam: CPI national secretary D Raja alleged that those without a history were desperately trying to portray themselves as patriots.
He said the Communist Party of India (CPI) had been fighting on behalf of the people for a hundred years and that its formation was a crucial moment in India’s history. The CPI was the only party that called for complete independence even before the Congress.
Speaking at a meeting presided over by party State secretary Kunamneni Sambasiva Rao on the occasion of the conclusion of the CPI’s centenary celebrations here on Sunday, Raja said the past 100 years were marked by sacrifices. The CPI was formed in Kanpur on December 26, 1925, he said, adding that only the Congress and the Communists have a political history in the country, while the RSS, which claims to have a hundred-year history, has none.
Raja questioned the role of the RSS during the freedom struggle and in the post-independence period, asserting that the CPI played a crucial role in several developments after independence.
He alleged that US President Donald Trump was displaying imperialistic tendencies, acting like a dictator and seeking to become another Hitler, and said the Communists would confront him. Threatening countries such as Mexico, Colombia and Cuba was inappropriate, he said.
Raja also alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi lacked the strength to question Trump, who was resorting to threats and displaying a domineering attitude using the Russia-Ukraine war as a pretext. It was regrettable that the US was pressuring India to stop purchasing oil from Russia, he added.
Communal forces were rampant in the country and wealth was being concentrated in the hands of a few, which was dangerous for India’s future, Raja said, calling upon all secular forces to unite to confront fascist forces.
CPI national executive committee members Amarjit Kaur and Girisharma, National Control Commission chairman K Narayana, senior leader Puvvada Nageswara Rao and others were present. Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy also addressed the meeting.
Party workers from Nagpur, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Kerala attended the programme.
