Mohammad Siraj’s omission from Champions Trophy squad: A tough pill to swallow
The exclusion of pacer Mohammad Siraj from India’s 2025 Champions Trophy squad has ignited a storm of reactions, with fans and experts questioning the decision
Hyderabad: The Indian cricket team’s selection for the 2025 Champions Trophy has raised eyebrows, with Mohammad Siraj’s exclusion taking centre stage.
The 15-man squad, announced on January 18 by the selection committee headed by Ajit Agarkar, has left fans and experts alike questioning the decision to leave out one of India’s most consistent pacers.
Siraj has been a standout performer for India in recent years, delivering match-winning spells in key tournaments, including the 2023 World Cup. However, his omission from both the England ODI series and the Champions Trophy has left many puzzled.
Despite his form, the selectors have opted for players such as Arshdeep Singh and Harshit Rana, who bring different strengths to the table. Arshdeep’s left-arm angle and impressive domestic record made him an obvious choice, but Siraj’s absence is being seen as a bold yet risky call.
The news of the Hyderabadi pacer’s exclusion has ignited a flurry of reactions across social media, with cricket fans expressing their shock and disappointment.
Many took to X (formerly Twitter) to voice their frustration, calling it an unjust decision.
