Hyderabad: More of the immensely popular Annapurna Canteens, which are currently serving hygienic food to several thousands on the streets at just Rs.5, could soon be opened in government hospitals, including the Niloufer Hospital to help attendees of patients.
Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao, in response to a tweet from Prajwala founder Sunitha Krishnan asking for an Annapurna Canteen for attenders in Niloufer and other government hospitals, said on Tuesday there were several such canteens already and that he would be happy to create more if it helps the attendees.
“Can there be a Annapurna Canteen with public-Private partnership ensuring breakfast, lunch & dinner for attenders in Niloufer Hospital and other Govt. hospitals to slowly stop adhoc free food distribution which destroys the dignity of a person?” (sic), tweeted Sunitha Krishnan, tagging Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao, KT Rama Rao and the GHMC Commissioner.
“We have several such canteens. Happy to create more if it helps the attendees. Request Mayor @GadwalvijayaTRS Garu and @CommissionrGHMC Garu to verify and improve where needed,” replied the Minister, to which Sunitha Krishnan responded saying any ‘public distribution by philanthropists should be then channelized only through Annapurna’.
The Mayor too responded saying ‘will verify and improve as per requirement’.
