Hyderabad: Greenery has been the government’s top priority since the State was formed in 2014. Along with concentrating on building scores of infrastructure projects, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is also giving importance to lung spaces.
Out of the 1,037 parks and green pockets developed in the GHMC limits, which include 19 major parks spread over five acres of land and 17 theme parks, 439 were developed after 2014.
More such facilities are underway, the GHMC said in a press release and added that currently two Urban Forest Parks and 56 theme parks are under various stages of development. While the two Urban Forest Parks will be located in Madannaguda near Shamshabad and Nagaram, the 55 theme parks will be spread across different parts of the city. The Pranavayu Urban Forest Park and the Sports Theme Park in Gajularamaram are a few examples of urban forest park and a theme park. Both these facilities were inaugurated recently by the Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) Minister KT Rama Rao along with other Ministers. Animal Kingdom Park, Science Theme Park, Knowledge Park, a Topiary Garden, a Women’s Park, an Adventure Theme Park, a Community Park, a Children’s Park and a Golf Theme Park are some of the other themes being considered.
“The inauguration of these 55 parks will commence from February end and continue till December this year. These parks are being developed at an estimated cost of over Rs 130 crore,” a GHMC official informed. All these lung spaces offer recreation facilities to people of all age groups with facilities like Yoga centre, walkways, open gyms, lawns, washrooms, etc.
Recently, the civic body also started utilising the space under the flyovers to develop greenery. While the space under the Shaikpet flyover is now available to public, a similar lung space is also being built under a flyover in LB Nagar.
