Hyderabad: Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao welcomed senior Dalit leader Motkupalli Narsimhulu into the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) at a programme held in Telangana Bhavan here. He recalled their long association and termed their friendship as ‘beyond politics’. Narsimhulu, who had served in politics for more than three decades, had worked in Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He had also served as a Minister in the then TDP government in erstwhile Andhra Pradesh.
Speaking on the occasion, Chandrashekhar Rao termed Narasimhulu as a leader who served the weaker sections of the society throughout his political career. He walked down the memory lane and said that Narsimhulu, who served as Energy Minister in the TDP government, had witnessed the power supply problems faced by Telangana.
He reminded that people were forced to purchase drinking water in several parts of the Telangana region. “We had faced our own share of challenges within the party that we have served. The then Chief Minister of erstwhile Andhra Pradesh had irresponsibly stated that Telangana cannot attract investments as it had nothing to offer. Such statements have made me launch the Statehood movement to solve the problems faced by the region,” he narrated.
The Chief Minister pointed out that those opposing Statehood tried to create fear among people stating that in a separate Telangana, Maoists will roam around with AK-47 rifles and the State will not receive investments. He stated that when he launched the Telangana movement, some people had even threatened to kill him, but he did not take a back step and went on convincing several political parties to gather support for achieving Statehood to Telangana. “I had to meet BSP national president Mayawati alone 19 times to seek her support,” he added. He slammed the rulers of undivided Andhra Pradesh for doing injustice to even the Gods and the rivers in Telangana and stated that the Yadadri temple was nearing completion beyond one’s imagination.
Stating that Telangana made huge progress since the State formation, Chandrashekhar Rao said people living in urban areas were now looking towards moving to their native villages as the rural areas have transformed significantly. He pointed out that schemes such as Rythu Bandhu and Rythu Bima have revived agriculture. “Politics might be just a game for other political parties, but it is a task given by the people to TRS. Narsimhulu joining TRS is beyond any politics as he had served in many positions and he is only keen to serve people,” he said.
The TRS president said there was no doubt that TRS will return to power for another term in 2023. He stated that elections would come and go where the party might win some and lose a few, but the development of Telangana State would never cease to stop. He pointed out that BJP MLA from Raichur in Karnataka was demanding that schemes similar to Telangana must be implemented in their State else Raichur should be merged with Telangana, which speaks volumes about the development in the State. Ministers Mohd Mahmood Ali, G Jagadish Reddy, V Srinivas Goud, Government Whip Gongidi Sunitha, MP Badugula Lingaiah Yadav, former chairman of State Legislative Council Gutha Sukhender Reddy and others attended the meeting.
