Adilabad: A 38-year-old farmer died by suicide by consuming pesticide as he was allegedly depressed over his inability to repay loans at Pipri village in Indervelli mandal on Saturday.

According to Indervelli Assistant Sub-Inspector Bheemrao, on December 31, Kinaka Shankar tried to kill himself as he was distressed by the mounting burden of loans. He breathed his last while undergoing treatment at Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS)-Adilabad.

Shankar raised cotton crop on his two acres of land by availing loans. He registered losses and could not repay the loans. The quantum of loans was not yet known. The farmer is survived by a wife, a daughter and a son. Based on a complaint received from Shankar’s wife, a case was registered. Investigations were taken up.
