Kumram Bheem Asifabad: A 52-year-old farmer died, allegedly by suicide, after he became depressed due to mounting debts at Sungapur village in Tiryani mandal on Sunday night.
Police said Durgam Rajaiah, a tenant farmer from the village, consumed pesticide, after which he was rushed to a hospital in Asifabad. Doctors declared him brought dead.
Rajaiah had raised cotton in 10 acres leased from a local farmer, for which he borrowed loans. He incurred losses following a dip in yield caused by unfavourable climatic conditions. He had performed his daughter’s wedding last year and had been reeling under severe financial crisis. His family said he was depressed over his inability to repay the mounting debts.
Police registered a case based on a complaint from Rajaiah’s wife. Investigations are underway.
