Hyderabad: For filmmakers, the lockdown period isn’t just a brief pause, it’s the time that made them think out of the box, gave wings to their creative thinking on how to tell stories differently.
The latest film ‘WWW’ – (Who Where Why) is one such experimental film that rolled out of the creative imagination of cinematographer-turned filmmaker KV Guhan.
It’s a story of a young bunch of hackers led by Vishwa (Adith Arun) and has Ashraf (played by Priyadarshi), Sadha (Satyam Rajesh) and Christy (Divya Sripada) – all good friends who take time out chatting on their computer screens while residing in different cities. Working virtually often make them restless, wanting them to explore a new world.
On one occasion, Christy opens up with her team lead Vishwa about her personal life and her roommate Mithra (Shivani Rajasekhar), a shy and reserved girl who spends her time painting and onmural artwork.
During one of the virtual chats, Viswa paces himself up to get closer to Mithra after finding her interesting through her artwork. The friendship grows thicker and eventually Vishwa makes time to help Mithra’s family financially.
As weeks roll by, both start to crave for each other’s love and decides to meet. However, Covid-induced lockdown plays a spoilsport and for Vishwa, the days stretch like eons. Meanwhile, a stranger enters Christy’s flat, attacks her and then ties up Mithra to the chair threatening to kill.
Seeing the horror on his computer screen, Vishwa is left shocked and helpless even as Mithra goes through torture at the hands of the stranger.
Why does he behave so violently? What connection does he have with Vishwa? What he needs from the team forms the crux of the story.
The second half tells how Vishwa and team taps the dark world of illegal hacking and how they make big bucks by selling stolen data to corporates. Entirely shot on a computer screen, the film is well scripted and executed.
Actors Shivani Rajasekhar, Adith Arun and Sandeep, who plays as the stranger, have put up good performances.
Divya Sripada has been phenomenal with her craft right from the ‘Colour Photo’ and the emotions that she brought on screen in ‘WWW’ look natural.
Shivani too scores well while Adith Arun, who came to prominence with his role in ‘Dear Megha’, does well.
KV Guhan, who made his mark with his debut flick ‘118’, yet again shows his skill as a storyteller with a screenplay that is taut.
