Hyderabad: As Friday was the last day for filing nominations to contest the municipal and municipal corporation elections, many nominations were filed by candidates from different political parties and independents.
A few candidates were seen rushing to the Returning Officers’ offices to file their nominations before the 5 p.m. deadline. Officials permitted the candidates, who were in the queues, to file their nominations even after the deadline.
The nominations will be scrutinised on Saturday. Any appeals against rejection of nominations before the District Election Authority should be submitted before 5 p.m. on Sunday.
The last date for withdrawal of nominations is February 3, and the final list of contesting candidates will be published on the same day after 3 p.m.
Candidate clears nearly Rs 7.42 crore property tax dues
Meanwhile, one candidate representing a political party paid nearly Rs 7.40 crore property tax and water bill dues that had accumulated over the last few years in Nizamabad Municipal Corporation (NMC).
It is mandatory for candidates to furnish no-dues certificates from respective municipalities or municipal corporations along with their nominations. Accordingly, the candidate cleared the pending property tax dues in a single payment on Friday. The property tax dues pertain to a commercial structure at Pulang Chowrastha in the town, reports said.
The NMC coffers were filled with nearly Rs 8 crore in the last three days as 1,250 applications were filed by candidates for no-dues certificates.
