Hyderabad: The oustees of Musi River Development Project on Monday reiterated that they will not vacate their homes and demanded that the State government re-examine the project.
The victims of the Musi river project, proposed by the Congress government in Telangana State, voiced their concerns in an interaction session on Monday. Pouring out their grievances, women argued that the project is being rushed through without considering its social impact.
A large number of women, representing families affected by Musi project, who attended the event organized by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Telangana, expressed deep concern, stating that their lives would be disrupted if they were forced to relocate. Upset and angry over the Musi project proposals, the women pointed out that the project has a big economic and social impact on their future.
Balamani, a resident of KTR Nagar colony Ramanthapur said she had purchased land legitimately and constructed a house a few years ago. “Our lifetime earnings were spent on construction of a house. We planned to spend our last days in our own property happily. Now the government wants to throw us on the roads,” she complained.
Parveen Begum, a resident of Kishanbagh and a widow who is staying with her five married children in a single building for a long time said “Will a double bedroom be sufficient for our family? My children are asking me to shift to an old age home because they themselves will have to adjust in some rented house and can’t afford a bigger house,” she said.
The Aam Aadmi Party demanded the State government immediately re-examine the project and stop bulldozing the houses on pretext of Musi Development and HYDRAA. The party threatened to launch an agitation all over the State if the government continued with its plan without redressing the issues pertaining to public.
