Celestial wedding of Sri Parvathi Jadala Ramalingeshwara Swamy was performed by the temple priests at Cheruvugattu temple in Nalgonda district on Saturday as a part of annual jatara.
Nalgonda: The celestial wedding of the presiding deity of Sri Parvati Jedala Ramalingeshwara Swamy at Cheruvugattu temple in Narketpally Mandal was performed in the early hours of Saturday as part of the annual jatara that attracted more than one lakh devotees.
Devotees from neighbouring districts and from Maharashtra, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu thronged the temple to watch the auspicious celestial wedding. They came to the temple with yellow rice (thalambralu) offering. According to tradition, devotees bring thalambralu from their native places for the celestial wedding of Sri Parvathi Jadala Rama Lingeshwara Swamy.
On behalf of the State government, Nakrekal MLA Chirumathi Lingaiah presented silk clothes (pattu vasthralu) and thalambralu for the celestial wedding. Energy Minister G Jagdish Reddy also participated in a special pooja programme at the temple after the celestial wedding.
Amid the rituals, the celestial wedding of Sri Parvathi Jadala Rama Lingeshwara Swamy was performed by the temple priests at 5.30 am. Bhongir MP Komati Reddy Venkat Reddy, Zilla Parishad Chairman Banda Narender Reddy and several other leaders were also present.
In view of COVID-19 norms, devotees were not allowed to take a holy dip in the temple pond “pushkarini” and the shower taps on the hill shrine.
Carrying the sacred wooden chappals, considered as the chappals of the lord, on their heads, the devotees made Pradakshanams around the Dwajasthambam located on the premises of the temple since there is a belief that their health and financial problems would be solved. The hill shrine reverberated with chants of ‘Om Namah Shivaya’ by devotees during the celestial wedding.
Saints who arrived from Srisailam were the centre of attraction at the jatara. The jatara will conclude on February 23 with the procession “gramaostvam”.
The TSRTC is plying special buses to Cheruvugattu from Hyderabad, Nalgonda, Narketpally, Miryalaguda and Suryapet for the convenience of devotees.
