Nalgonda: Covid tests were stopped at several primary health centres in the district on Thursday following shortage of Rapid Antigen Test kits.

Scores of people came for Covid-19 tests at PHCs in Peddavoora, Ramulabanda, Alagadapa, but had to return home due to shortage of test kits. Due to spike in the number of cases in several mandals, people who have symptoms or came in contact with Covid positive patients rushed to the PHCs for rapid antigen tests.

Many were also seen waiting in long queues at the rapid antigen test and RTPCR test counters at Government General Hospital in Nalgonda.

Health Department officials were not available for comments on the issue.

Meanwhile, Government Whip and Alair MLA Gongidi Sunitha and her husband and Nalgoonda DCCB Chairman Gongidi Mahender Reddy went into self-isolation after developing mild symptoms. In a media statement, they said they had developed mild symptoms after attending a public meeting and decided to self-isolate. They urged the people to strictly follow all Covid norms.

During the first wave, Sunitha tested positive for Covid in July, 2020 and recovered after treatment in a Hyderabad hospital.
