Hyderabad: The Nalgonda police rescued a 20-month-old boy, who was kidnapped from the district government hospital on Tuesday, and arrested two women from Dammaiguda in Hyderabad in connection with the abduction case. The child was reunited with his parents within seven hours of the incident.

On Sunday, Bhagyalakshmi, an eight-months pregnant woman from Tungapadu village in Miryalaguda mandal, was admitted to the Labour ward of the Nalgonda Government hospital due to health issues. She was accompanied by her husband, Anji Babu, their 20-month-old son, Someshwara Kumar, and a neighbour, Kuncham Parvathamma, who was assisting her.

On Tuesday around 2 pm, while Bhagyalakshmi and Parvathamma were sitting with the child near the maternity ward, two unidentified women approached them. Gaining their trust through casual conversation, the women offered to look after the child while Bhagyalakshmi and Parvathamma left for lunch.

Seizing the opportunity, the two women allegedly abducted the boy and fled the hospital premises. Following a complaint lodged by Parvathamma, a kidnapping case was registered at the Nalgonda Two Town Police Station.

The police, under DSP K. Shivarama Reddy’s supervision, formed four special teams, which reviewed CCTV footage from the hospital and conducted inquiries at the RTC bus stand.

The search team traced the suspects to Pedda Padishala village in Gundala mandal, where they apprehended the two women at the residence of the parents of one of the accused. The child was rescued and handed over to his parents.

The accused were identified as Narayandasu Aruna, 40, of Dammaiguda, and Jantika Sukkamma alias Paladugu Sugunamma, 60, also of Dammaiguda.

According to police, Aruna had lost her son due to suicide a year ago and wanted to raise a male child. She conspired with Sukkamma, her neighbour and the duo targeted the Nalgonda government hospital and bus stand, looking for opportunities to kidnap a child.
