NCC creates history with first All-India Basic Paramotor Course, trains 100 cadets in a month

The National Cadet Corps made history by training 100 Senior Division cadets as basic paramotor pilots within a month. Conducted alongside NIMAS Guwahati, the successful aero-adventure programme will now be inducted into the NCC’s permanent annual curriculum

Guwahati: The National Cadet Corps (NCC) has achieved a historic milestone in adventure and skill-based training by successfully conducting its first-ever All-India Basic Paramotor Course, qualifying 100 Senior Division (SD) Boy Cadets as basic paramotor pilots within a single month.

The pioneering initiative culminated at the National Institute of Mountaineering and Adventure Sports (NIMAS) Centre in Guwahati, where the second phase of the nationwide course concluded recently, officials said on Friday.

This 15-day national programme, conducted from May 21 to June 4, trained 50 novice cadets drawn from 10 states and Union Territories in essential aspects of paramotoring, including ground handling, powered flight operations, and aerial navigation. Officials noted that the cadets demonstrated exceptional determination, with each participant completing a minimum of five solo flights to earn their certification.

The training was executed by the NIMAS Paramotor Node in Guwahati—currently the only civilian institute in India, apart from the Indian Armed Forces, authorized to conduct certified paramotor training. The institute provided expert instructors, a Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA)-compliant syllabus, and comprehensive safety supervision.

This pan-India programme followed the successful completion of the first all-NCC North Eastern Region (NER) Directorate Basic Paramotor Course, held from May 4 to May 19, which trained an initial batch of 50 cadets from the northeastern states. Together, the consecutive courses trained 100 pilots in less than 30 days, setting a new benchmark in aero-adventure training for Indian youth.

Reflecting the NCC’s commitment to fostering leadership and discipline, the organization has announced that the Basic Paramotor Course will now be incorporated into its permanent annual training curriculum. Furthermore, a specialized batch of 60 Senior Wing (SW) Girl Cadets is scheduled to undergo the same training between October and November this year.
