Hyderabad: Jal Shakti Minister C R Patil has assured that the National Dam Safety Authority’s (NDSA) report on the structural issues of the Medigadda barrage, a crucial component of the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project (KLIP) would be made available to the State government by the end of February.
This assurance came in response to concerns raised by Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy on the prolonged process of the inquiry by the national agency. The NDSA has been investigating it for close to one year.
The Minister urged Patil for steps to ensure early submission of the report with its recommendations so that remedial measures could be initiated. The rehabilitation of the Medigadda barrage was of top importance for the State to resume normal agriculture operations in the command area of the multi-stage lift irrigation project.
The State government had already drawn heavy flak for keeping the barrages of the Kaleshwaram project idle for more than one year while letting the precious river waters from Godavari and its tributary, Pranahita, down the barrages while crops under the SRSP project canal systems started withering.
The expert team constituted by the NDSA to investigate the construction of the KLIP barrages had already completed its task and submitted the report to the Central Water Commission.
Uttam Kumar Reddy met the Jal Shakti Minister on the sidelines of the 2nd All-India State Water Ministers’ Conference, 2025, organised by the Ministry of Jal Shakti at Udaipur.
