Over 3,000 nominations filed from 10 municipalities, one corporation in Adilabad

More than 3,000 nominations were filed from 11 urban local bodies in the erstwhile Adilabad district on Friday, with major participation from national and regional parties as officials worked late into the night to complete the process.

Adilabad: Over 3,000 nominations were filed from 11 urban local bodies, including one municipal corporation and 10 municipalities, on the final day of the process across the erstwhile Adilabad district on Friday.

Officials said a total of 3,393 nominations were received from 60 divisions of the Mancherial Municipal Corporation (MCC) and 268 wards of the Bellampalli, Chennur, Kyathanpalli, Luxettipet, Adilabad, Asifabad, Kagaznagar, Nirmal, Bhainsa and Khanapur civic bodies. The nomination process continued till late evening, with officials working till midnight to process the data.


The MCC witnessed 615 sets of nominations filed by 429 candidates belonging to the Congress, BRS, BJP, BSP, AAP, CPM and a few other parties. While 159 candidates supported by the BRS submitted their nominations, 177 candidates backed by the BJP and 150 candidates belonging to the Congress were among those who filed papers from different divisions of the recently created corporation.

As many as 44 Independents and 58 candidates from registered parties also entered the fray. Ten candidates from the BSP and four from the AIMIM submitted their nomination papers as well.

Meanwhile, the Adilabad municipality registered 721 sets of nominations submitted by 506 candidates from 49 wards. Asifabad and Kagaznagar municipalities recorded 166 and 230 sets of nominations respectively. Nirmal municipality, comprising 42 wards, accounted for 325 sets of nominations, while Bhainsa and Khanapur saw 202 and 102 sets of nominations respectively.
