Hyderabad: Telangana State Planning Board vice-chairman B Vinod Kumar said there were several apprehensions among the States over the new National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and it was the responsibility of the union government to clarify those apprehensions.

Inaugurating EdEx 2021, a school leadership summit organized by the Telangana Recognised School Managements Association (TRSMA) at Madhapur here on Sunday, Vinod Kumar said during his interaction with the then union Minister for Human Resource Development Smriti Irani, he had recommended a few amendments to the policy. However, there was still no clarity on the NEP.

Since the responsibility of implementing the NEP effectively lies with the State governments, the union government has to allay suspicions of the States and give clarity, he said.

Like all other sectors, education sector was also adversely affected due to the Covid-19 pandemic, he said. “The union and State governments have to declare the academic year 2022-23 as the year to cover the learning loss,” he suggested.

Vinod Kumar emphasized on the need to set up more primary schools as the population was set to increase in the coming years. He asked the TRSMA to discuss various issues related to education sector during the two-day event and submit a report accordingly.
