Hyderabad: The Standing Committee of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), which met here on Wednesday, approved the proposal of a new building for Transit Dorms with 187 beds for women at Nampally Sarai under the Safe City project.

The proposal submitted to the committee looks at dismantling the old dilapidated buildings/office rooms and using the existing vacant land behind the heritage structure. The estimated cost evaluated for the project has been put at Rs 11 crore and include provisions for firefighting system, building elevation, fully equipped kitchen, restaurant furniture, furniture and bedding.

The standing committee in its first meeting post-formation of the new council was presented with a 20-point agenda comprising various developmental works and departmental issues of which 18 were approved.

The other proposals that were given a nod included the construction of animal crematoriums at the GHMC Animal Care centres located in Fathullaguda and Mahadevpur. The civic body has permitted two NGOs to build small crematoriums with their own funds.

The committee approved the construction of a multipurpose function hall at Ayyappa ground in Vengalrao Nagar ward with Rs.285 lakh and also the proposal related to ancillary works for the functioning of swimming pool and indoor stadium in Katedan Sports Complex. The meeting was chaired by Mayor G Vijaya Laxmi and GHMC Commissioner DS Lokesh Kumar.
