Hyderabad: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is preparing to launch a new FASTag Annual Pass, aimed at reducing toll payment hassles for frequent highway users. Although the pass is not yet available for purchase, NHAI has listed it on its official website, complete with details such as pricing, usage limits, and validity.
The official rollout is scheduled for August 15, on Independence Day. The prepaid plan is specifically designed for non-commercial private vehicles, allowing eligible users to pay a one-time fee and enjoy up to 200 toll-free trips or one year of validity, whichever comes first.
Once the limit is exhausted, the FASTag will automatically revert to the regular pay-per-use system.
Who is eligible?
The FASTag Annual Pass is meant only for cars, jeeps, and vans — not for commercial or goods vehicles. To be eligible:
- The vehicle must have an active FASTag installed
- The FASTag must be linked to a complete Vehicle Registration Number (VRN), not just a chassis number
- The FASTag should not be blacklisted or involved in any disputes
- Users with temporary numbers must update their FASTag details before applying.
Where will the pass work?
The pass will be valid only at toll plazas operated directly by NHAI. It won’t work on:
- State highways
- Roads run by private operators
- State-run expressways
- Users are advised to check if their regular routes fall under NHAI jurisdiction before purchasing the pass
How to apply for the FASTag Annual Pass
Starting August 15, users can apply through official platforms like ‘Rajmarg Yatra’ mobile app, NHAI official website, and Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) website. Avoid third-party apps and websites to steer clear of potential scams.
Application Steps:
- Ensure FASTag is active and linked to a valid VRN
- Visit any official platform
- Enter vehicle and FASTag details
- Pay the one-time fee of Rs. 3,000 via digital payment options
