Nikhat Zareen unveils Hyderabad Marathon jersey as event sets record with 28,000 runners
The NMDC Hyderabad Marathon, India’s second-largest marathon and a World Athletics Label Race, will be held on August 24 with record participation of 28,000 runners. Nikhat Zareen unveiled the event jersey, as organizers target Rs 3 crore in charity contributions.
Hyderabad: Two-time women’s World boxing champion, Nikhat Zareen, said that NMDC Hyderabad Marathon, which is a World Athletics Label Race and also India’s second largest marathon to be organised on August 24, was a truly inspirational event prompting thousands of citizens not just from Hyderabad but from across India to take part in it and get a feel
of what it means to participate in marathon.
“I am really pleased to know that the number of participants has been increasing with each year – this year being a record 28,000 entries. This speaks of how eagerly thousands have been wanting to get a chance to take part,” Nikhat said at the unveiling of the Hyderabad Marathon jersey and the medals here on Monday.
Mr Rajesh Vetcha, Race Director, said that the 5K Fun run would be flagged off at 7 am at Hitex Grounds (Madhapur) on August 23 and the full marathon and the half-marathon at People’s Plaza (Necklace Road) at 4.30 am on August 24.
The 10K Run will be flagged off at 7.00 am at Hitex (Madhapur) and all the runs will culminate at the Gachibowli Sports Complex.
“Hyderabad Runners Society, in association with NMDC Ltd, IDFC First Bank and the Government of Telangana is hosting the Marathon and other related events,” he said.
“This Hyderabad Marathon, as always, cares for charity and so far about Rs 1.29 crores funds were raised for the events which carry a total prize money of Rs 45 lakhs,” Mr Rajesh Vetcha said. “We hope to
raise about Rs. 3 crores for charity,” he added.
“We have adopted 14 Government schools and also appointed Physical Education Teachers to create awareness about strength and conditioning,” he said.
