Hyderabad: Nikon India Pvt. Ltd. has announced the release of firmware version 3.00 for its full-frame FX-format mirrorless camera, the Nikon Z f, bringing a suite of creative and usability enhancements to photographers and videographers.
The latest update introduces a Film Grain feature that adds a natural, grainy texture to photos and videos through advanced image processing. Users can fine-tune grain size (three options) and intensity (six levels) to emulate the feel of traditional film photography. Nikon says the randomised grain pattern ensures each frame appears unique, offering a “film-like” shooting experience.
The update also enhances focusing precision with a new “Only during zoom” option for Focus Peaking, allowing users to view peaking highlights only when magnifying the image for manual focus. Additionally, the firmware adds a “Maximum aperture Lv” setting for better focus detection and new grid display options—4:3 for still images and 9:16 for videos—optimised for social media content creation.
Among other improvements, users can now enjoy seamless live streaming via HDMI output, an Automatic Monitor Display Switch to prevent accidental viewfinder activation, and an electronic shutter sound option for high-speed and pixel shift shooting. A new Video Orientation Recording function ensures portrait videos are properly aligned during playback and editing.
Nikon also said the update simplifies Imaging Recipe registration through its Nikon Imaging Cloud, making it easier for creators to experiment with downloadable picture control profiles.
With the new firmware, Nikon continues its commitment to supporting creators with tools that expand imaging possibilities and enhance shooting efficiency.
The firmware version 3.00 for Nikon Z f (black/silver) is now available for download via Nikon’s official website at www.nikon.co.in
