Hyderabad: Nikon India Pvt. Ltd. has announced the launch of the NIKKOR Z 24-70mm f/2.8 S II, a standard zoom lens designed for full-frame/FX-format mirrorless cameras. The lens offers the fastest autofocus in Nikon’s history and is the lightest in its class.
Belonging to the S-Line of NIKKOR Z lenses, the new lens features a constant maximum aperture of f/2.8 and covers the versatile focal length range from 24 mm wide-angle to 70 mm medium-telephoto. Weighing approximately 675 g, it is the lightest in its category and incorporates an internal zoom mechanism, which enhances stability while improving dust- and drip-resistant performance.
The NIKKOR Z 24-70mm f/2.8 S II is the first zoom lens to adopt Nikon’s Silky Swift VCM (SSVCM) autofocus drive, making its AF approximately five times faster than its predecessor. Autofocus tracking during zooming has been improved by nearly 60%, making it easier to capture fast-moving subjects such as athletes.
Key features include a newly developed 11-blade diaphragm for smooth bokeh, advanced coatings to reduce ghosting and flares, and a filter adjustment window for easier use of circular polarising and variable ND filters. The lens also supports close focusing, with a minimum focus distance of 0.24 m at the wide-angle end and 0.33 m at the telephoto end.
Optimised for both still photography and video recording, the lens suppresses focus breathing and maintains balance when zooming—useful for videographers using accessories.
Nikon stated that the new lens reflects its commitment to advancing optical performance while meeting the needs of both professionals and enthusiasts, expanding creative possibilities in imaging.
