Hyderabad: The city-based National Institute of Nutrition (NIN) in collaboration with State government has launched SARs-CoV-2 sero-surveillance across Telangana. Given the rise of Omicron positive infections, the sero-survey has become vital, as it has the potential to thrown some light on the antibodies against the SARS-CoV-2 among the general population in Telangana.
A total of 20 teams along with four coordinators and one lead scientist along with State health authorities have launched the sero-surveillance, NIN said. The sero-survey will also assess the extent of the community spread of the Omicron infection in Telangana and will be completed in three weeks.
The sero-prevalence is being conducted by examining the SARS Cov-2, IgG antibodies in the blood samples, which are being collected from the general population and heath care workers in all the districts.
The house-to-house sero-survey of NIN and State government will cover 330 villages in all the 33 districts of the State. As part of the survey, a total of 16,000 individuals are being covered. In each of the 33 districts, 10 villages will be selected randomly and from each village 40 people above 6 years of age, both males and females will be covered.
