Nizamabad smuggling chase: Excise constable Soumya’s condition continues to be critical
The excise constable Soumya remains in critical condition after being run over by a car involved in ganja smuggling during a vehicle check in Nizamabad. The driver reversed the vehicle, causing Soumya to fall under it before crashing into an electric pole.
Hyderabad: The condition of Excise constable G Soumya, who suffered grievous injuries after being run over by a car involved in ganja smuggling, continues to be critical.
The 23-year-old constable suffered serious injuries while attempting to nab offenders, who were trying to flee in a car during a vehicle check near Madhavanagar village in Nizamabad district on Friday night.
Soumya fell under the car when the driver reversed the vehicle in an attempt to flee but ended up ramming into an electric pole. Soumya was immediately rushed to a hospital in Nizamabad and as per the doctors’ recommendation, she was shifted to Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS).
Police arrested the driver and another suspect and launched a hunt for the two others, who were involved in transporting the contraband from Nirmal to Nizamabad.
Meanwhile, Prohibition and Excise Commissioner Hari Kiran, visited NIMS hospital and enquired about Sowmya’s health condition. Later, he met with her family members and assured them that the department would fully support Soumya and bear all her hospital expenditure.
