Speeding ganja-laden car hits woman excise constable during check
A woman excise constable was grievously injured after being hit by a speeding car carrying ganja during an interception attempt near Nirmal. Police later chased, arrested two smugglers, seized the contraband, and launched a wider probe.
Nizamabad: A woman Excise constable suffered grievous injuries when she attempted to stop a speeding car smuggling ganja to Nirmal.
The incident occurred on Friday night. Acting on a tip-off that ganja was being transported in a car, the police deployed a team at Madhavanagar on the outskirts of the town.
After identifying the speeding car, which was moving suspiciously, Excise constable Sowmya tried to intercept the vehicle. However, despite repeated warnings, the offenders did not stop and instead rammed the car into the constable. As a result, she suffered grievous injuries and was immediately shifted to a private hospital by her colleagues, according to reports.
In an attempt to escape, the offenders continued to drive the car at high speed towards Nirmal. The police, however, chased the vehicle and nabbed the offenders, identified as Mohd Safiuddin and Syed Sohail, the reports said.
On checking the car, the police found a huge quantity of ganja. A case has been registered and efforts are on to gather more details about the network involved in the sale and transportation of the contraband.
