Nizamabad witness drop in crime rate in 2020

While murder cases remained unchanged compare to last year, there was a dip in attempt to murder, rape, rioting and crime against women

Nizamabad: Compared to last two years, annual crime rate decreased in 2020 at Nizamabad Police Commissionerate, Nizamabad Commissioner of Police Karthikeya, releasing the annual crime report on Tuesday, said. While the murder cases remained unchanged compare to last year, there was a drop in bodily offence, attempt to murder, rape and rioting cases. Meanwhile, there was a 26.34 per cent decrease in property offence cases.

Nizamabad CP Karthikeya informed that in 2018, 20 murder cases were reported while in 2019 and 2020, 31 murder cases were reported.


In 2019, 55 attempts to murder cases were registered and this year the number came down to 47. In 2019, 13 culpable homicide cases were reported in the commissionerate and this year it was decreased to 9 cases. Rioting cases also saw a dip with 26 against the 36 reported last year while kidnaping cases dropped from 29 to 21 this year. Rape cases also dropped from 62 last year to 34, while sexual assaults rose to 641 from last year’s 590 cases.
The Police Commissioner informed that there was a 26.34 per cent decrease in property offence cases, 25 per cent dip in dacoity cases and a 53 per cent drop in robbery cases. House breaking cases saw a drop of 69 per cent while transformer coil theft cases decreased by 14 per cent. While automobile theft cases decreased by 21 per cent, chain snatching cases rose by 30 per cent.

Karthikeya said that stolen property recovery per cent decreased to 28.29 per cent this year compared to 40 per cent in 2018 and 35 per cent in 2019. Fatal road accident cases in the commissionerate decreased by 3 per cent in 2020, but accident cases stood almost same compared to last year. As many as 292 people died in accidents in 2020. There was a drop in white collar offences compared to last two years. While 349 and 350 cases registered in 2018 and 2019 respectively, 314 cases were registered I 2020.

Meanwhile, crime against women, including dowry deaths, dowry harassments, molestation and eve teasing cases came down this year. In 2018, as many as 451 cases of crime against women was registered while it was 532 in 2019. The number came down to 418 this year. Motor Vehicle Act cases saw an increase in 2020 apart from collecting more amount in fines compared to last two years. As many as 3,35,195 cases were registered this year and a whopping Rs 9,49,63,400 fines were collected from the offenders, which is almost double the amount compared to last two years. However, suicide cases increased to 301 from 256 in last year.
