Hyderabad: Telangana State has received bountiful rains so far this monsoon with five districts receiving large excess rainfall (more than 60 per cent of the average normal rainfall), 21 districts getting excess rainfall (ranging from 20 to 50 per cent of the normal) and seven districts receiving normal rainfall. Significantly, not even a single district is deficit in rainfall.
The Southwest monsoon (June to September) arrived in the State on June 5, nearly a week in advance as it generally arrives around June 12. Since then, the monsoon has been active in the State.
The cumulative rainfall from June 1 to September 12 was 873. 9mm against the normal rainfall of 650.9 mm, recording 34 per cent excess rainfall over the normal rainfall. Last year, for the corresponding period, the cumulative rainfall in Telangana was 863.9 mm.
So far, five districts including Siddipet (95 per cent), Rajanna Sircilla (76 per cent), Warangal Urban (75 per cent), Narayanpet (72 per cent) and Karimnagar (64 per cent) have received large excess rainfall. The excess rainfall percentage may only go up with the monsoon still active and at least two weeks left for the rainy season to come to an end.
Normal rainfall was recorded in seven districts including Nagarkurnool, Sangareddy, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Suryapet , Mulugu, Peddapalli and Mancherial.
Meanwhile, after a brief break, moderate rain occurred in several parts of the State on Monday. According to Telangana State Development Planning Society, 79.3 mm rainfall was recorded at Kagaznagar, followed by 46.5 mm at Jakora in Nizamabad and 40 mm at Nasrullabad, Kamareddy.
A deep depression lies over north coastal Odisha and is expected to head towards north Chattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh and weaken into a depression during the next 24 hours.
Under its influence, light to moderate rains are expected at many places with heavy rains at isolated places in the State on Tuesday. Light to moderate rains are expected at a few places in the next two days.
