Karimnagar: Election Commission of India banned exit poll surveys for Huzurabad constituency by-election scheduled to be held on October 30.
District Collector RV Karnan, in a statement here on Thursday, said that as per the Representation of the Public Act 1951, section 126(a), any type of exit poll survey should not be carried out as well as published in newspapers or telecast on television channels or other media up to 7.30 pm on October 30.
If anybody were to carry out exit poll surveys or publish in newspapers or telecast in television channels by violating EC norms, they are liable for punishment, he said.
Earlier, Collector along with Commissioner of Police V Satyanarayana, election general observer Dr Muthu Krishnan Shankar Narayana, and police observer Anupam Agarwal visited counting center in SRR Government Degree and PG College and examined arrangements for counting scheduled to be held on October 2.
They examined the auditorium hall, class rooms, and indoor stadium to store EVMs and VVPATs after the election and counting on October 2.
They instructed the police commissioner to make tight security arrangements at strong rooms, wherein the EVMS and VVPATs would be stored. They instructed officials to arrange required furniture, CC cameras, barricades, tents, lighting and others for counting.
They also instructed police to close one side of Karimnagar-Jagtial main road in front of SRR college on the day of counting.
Additional Collectors GV Shyamprasad Lal, Garima Agarwal, Assistant Collector Mayank Mittal, RDO Anand Kumar and other officials participated in the programme.
