Hyderabad: The Central government has said no outdated sub-critical technology was used in the construction of the 1,080 MW Bhadradri Thermal Power Plant (BTPP) at Manuguru.
Replying to a question by Malkajgiri MP A Revanth Reddy in Lok Sabha, the Union Minister of Power and New & Renewable Energy RK Singh said the setting up of thermal power plants was a de-licensed activity under Section 7 of Electricity Act, 2003. Telangana State Power Generation Corporation Limited (TSGENCO) had informed that it had not used outdated sub-critical technology in the construction of the BTPP, he said.
The sub-critical technology is a proven technology and most of the sub-critical units are operating successfully in the country. In 2017, Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change had accorded Environmental Clearance for setting up of 4×270 MW BTPP, which was valid for a period of seven years from the date of issue, he said. Irrespective of the technology used, all thermal power plants including BTPP were obligated to comply with the emission standards as notified by MoEF&CC and directions given by Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) from time to time by installing additional emission control equipment, he said.
Further, Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) informed that the boilers for BTPP had been designed and engineered by them in accordance with the technical requirements stipulated by TSGENCO, including fuel (coal characteristics) to be used, and for meeting guaranteed parameter requirements as stipulated by the TSGENCO.
Regarding representations seeking inquiry into the project, he said TSGENCO had informed that one representation was received from Forum of Good Governance, Saifabad, Hyderabad. However, as per the directions from the State government, TSGENCO had taken up the project in order to meet the power requirements of the newly formed State, he added.
