Hyderabad: The Centre has not released a single paise to help Telangana State rehabilitate the victims of the recent rains and subsequent floods in the State. The officials of the Finance Department took up the issue with Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao during a review meeting at Pragathi Bhavan on Saturday.
The Chief Minister said it was once again proved that the Centre was only making empty promises and not taking any concrete steps. Despite severe losses incurred by the State due to heavy rains and floods, the Centre’s attitude is now exposed as it failed to release even a single rupee as assistance in this regard. “It is highly regrettable that help has not been extended even when a city like Hyderabad suffered heavy losses,” he said.
The heavy rains that lashed the State recently, have caused flash floods across the State especially in Hyderabad. The rains and subsequent floods caused losses in several sectors especially crop loss across the State.
Preliminary estimates of crop loss is said to be Rs 5,000 crore. In his letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 15, the Chief Minister explained about the losses suffered and requested for release of Rs 1,350 crore as an immediate relief.
The President, Vice President and the Prime Minister expressed their shock over the heavy rains and floods. They spoke with the Chief Minister and personally enquired about the situation. The Central team also visited the State and assessed the situation. “After all this, we have expected some assistance from the Centre. But as on date, not even a single rupee has been released,” the officials informed.
