Karimnagar: Indian NRI associations in Malaysia have advised Indians staying illegally in the country to utilise the Malaysian government’s migrant repatriation scheme and leave the country without facing punishment.

Under the Migrant Repatriation Programme 2.0 (PRM 2.0), the Malaysian government is offering an opportunity for foreigners staying illegally to leave the country without facing investigations or imprisonment. The scheme will conclude on April 30 this year.

Foreigners who submit applications under the programme can leave the country without punishment by paying a nominal penalty. Those staying in Malaysia with expired visas or without proper visa documents can utilise the opportunity.

Authorities have warned that after the deadline, illegal residents will be detained through extensive checks across the country. Those arrested will face imprisonment in addition to penalties.

The Indian High Commission in Kuala Lumpur is issuing Emergency Certificates (EC) to Indians whose passports have expired or who have lost their passports to facilitate their return.

Pravasi Labour Union leader Swadesh Parikipandla advised Indians staying illegally in Malaysia to make use of the scheme before the deadline.
