Hyderabad: A unique and advanced surgical technique for treating severe hemorrhoids, developed by Dr. Pallam Praveen, Professor and Head of the Department of General Surgery at Osmania General Hospital (OGH), has been accepted for publication by the International Journal of Surgery.
Titled “Pallam’s Painless Hybrid Laser Sandwich Procedure for Grade III and Grade IV Haemorrhoids”, the innovative technique promises faster recovery and significantly reduces pain and recurrence, while avoiding complications such as incontinence that are commonly associated with traditional hemorrhoid surgeries.
Dr. Praveen explained that the conventional procedure is often associated with prolonged pain, incontinence, and recurrence. However, his new sphincter-sparing technique results in minimal pain, no incontinence, and almost zero recurrence.
“Patients undergoing this procedure can walk home on the same day. I have performed this new procedure on more than 500 patients over the past four years,” said Dr. Praveen.
While the standard treatment—hemorrhoidectomy—is the usual choice for severe cases, it often results in considerable discomfort and recovery time. In contrast, the painless hybrid laser sandwich procedure offers a minimally invasive, patient-friendly alternative.
OGH Superintendent Dr. Rakesh Sahay, along with other faculty members and doctors, appreciated Dr. Praveen’s contribution and felicitated him for this notable achievement.
