Hyderabad: In a relief to students appearing for the Telangana State Engineering, Agriculture and Medical Common Entrance Test (TS EAMCET) 2022, only 70 per cent of the syllabus in both first and second year intermediate will be covered for the entrance test.

The move comes in the wake of the Telangana State Board of Intermediate Education deciding to cover only 70 per cent of the total syllabus for intermediate public examinations as the required number of physical classes could not be conducted during the academic year 2021-22 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

A formal announcement regarding reduction of syllabus in the TS EAMCET 2022 is expected to be made by the Telangana State Council of Higher Education (TSCHE) after the Common Entrance Test committee meeting scheduled for Monday.

Last year, 100 per cent syllabus in the first year intermediate and 70 per cent syllabus in the second-year were covered for the TS EAMCET. The syllabus was reduced in the second-year intermediate as required physical classes could not be conducted during 2020-21 due to the pandemic and first-year syllabus remained unchanged as students attended physical classes during the academic year 2019-20.

In another major decision, the committee is likely to reduce aggregate marks in intermediate for admissions into various courses through the TS EAMCET 2022.
Currently, 45 per cent (40 per cent for SC/ST category) of marks is a must for admission, this norm may be relaxed to ‘pass’ in the intermediate.

This is being contemplated as all second-year students were passed considering their first-year scores and second-year students who had backlogs in the first year were given minimum qualifying marks in 2021 as exams could not be held due to the pandemic.
Similarly, taking into account the low pass percentage registered by second-year students in the first-year exams held during 2021-22, the government had awarded minimum qualifying marks to all failed students.

The committee may also do away with intermediate weightage for allotting TS EAMCET ranks to students this year as well. As per the rule, the TS EAMCET ranks are allotted considering 75 per cent marks in the entrance test and 25 per cent weightage to intermediate marks. This year, the ranks may be allotted considering marks in the entrance test alone.

As the JEE Main and Intermediate Public Examinations schedules have been announced, the TSCHE is planning to conduct the TS EAMCET in the last week of June. A notification for the same is expected to be released this month.
