Hyderabad: The Osmania University (OU) has come under fire from students for a major goof up in the Telangana State Eligibility Test (TG SET) 2024 conducted for securing eligibility for appointment as lecturers/ assistant professors.
A staggering 26 questions had errors in the History test, which was recently held by the university. As per the final key, 25 questions in paper- II and one in paper – I had errors, including incomplete and ambiguous questions.
However, students who appeared for the test highlighted that there were errors in 40 questions, including 39 in paper – II and one in paper – I.
Some students on Tuesday entered into heated arguments with TG SET 2024 Member Secretary Prof. G Naresh Reddy, who is also OU Registrar, over the issue and staged a flash protest in the administrative building.
According to candidates who submitted a representation, the member secretary agreed to again call for a subject committee meeting on the matter.
The issue sprang up after the test on September 10, 2024 and release of preliminary answer keys for both the papers, prompting students to raise objections on questions for discrepancies.
Following a large number of objections received, the university constituted the subject experts committee to look into the issue. Strangely, the varsity again released the preliminary key and after students protested a final key was released, adding 52 marks as a compensation for errors in both the papers.
Mudavath Srinivas, one of the students who took the test said despite flagging errors in 39 questions in the paper-II, the university ignored issues in 14 questions. “Never in the university’s history has such a blunder been made. The issue is only in History exam,” he said
Srinivas demanded the university release the subject experts committee report besides reconducting the examination as a large number of students were impacted due to the goof-up.
When contacted, Prof. Reddy admitted the issue and said there were issues with regards to 12 questions and 24 marks were added.
However, the final key released by the university mentioned 26 questions with discrepancies.
“Due to technical issues, paper-II had incomplete questions and discrepancies. We had referred the matter to the experts committee. Since this is an eligibility test, the questions have not been dropped and compensatory marks are already added. After announcing the results followed by certificates verification and release of SET certificates some students have raised the issue again,” he added.
Only 7.17 per cent out of 26,294 candidates who appeared for the tests were declared qualified in the TG SET 2024 conducted from September 10 to 12, 2024.
