Hyderabad: The Osmania University Teachers’ Association (OUTA) on Saturday objected to the university’s reported leasing of professor quarters – P2 and P3, along with approximately one acre of prime university land – to Adi Dhwani trust.

In a letter to Vice Chancellor Prof M Kumar, the OUTA said the action was in direct violation of the Justice Chinnappa Reddy Committee report, which stated that not an inch of university land should be transferred to any private party under any circumstances. The association also highlighted that the lease was granted at a nominal rate of Rs 12,000 per annum for each quarter.

“It is alarming that Adi Dhwani Trust is now seeking additional quarters under long-term lease for 30 years. Such actions compromise the intended purpose of the university land and housing which is to support faculty accommodation,” said Prof B Manohar, president OUTA.

He demanded the immediate cancellation of the lease and action against those responsible for unauthorised and inappropriate transfer of the university property.
