Hyderabad: The 24th UCMAS National Competition 2025 opened on Saturday at the GMC Balayogi Indoor Stadium, drawing more than 6,000 young math talents from across India in one of the largest showcases of mental arithmetic skills ever held in the country.
With over 2,500 participants from South India alone, the two-day event being held on August 16 and 17 has transformed Hyderabad into a hub of academic energy, precision and youthful determination, a press release said.
From the very first round, the atmosphere at the venue was electric, with students solving complex calculations at remarkable speed and accuracy, as parents cheered proudly.
At the core of the competition is mental arithmetic, a brain development programme that trains children to perform rapid calculations using the abacus and advanced mental techniques. Beyond mathematics, it builds concentration, sharpens memory, strengthens listening skills and boosts overall cognitive performance, empowering children to excel in academics and life.
Dr Snehal Karia, CEO and President of UCMAS India, said, “The UCMAS National Competition is more than a contest, it is a celebration of the mind. Watching thousands of children push their limits and achieve remarkable feats proves that the right training and focus can unlock extraordinary potential.”
Dr Chris Chew, Executive Director of UCMAS, said that over the next two days, the event will feature multiple competition rounds, cultural performances and an awards ceremony to honour the nation’s top young mental math champions.
