Over 8,500 idols of Ganesh immersed in erstwhile Adilabad

Adilabad: Over 8,500 idols of Lord Ganesha were ceremoniously immersed in local water bodies marking the conclusion of 11-day-long Vinayaka or Ganesh Chaturthi festival, across erstwhile Adilabad district on Tuesday.
About 2,400 idols placed from Adilabad district were immersed in Penganga and local water bodies. Chief guests including MP G Nagesh, MLA Payal Shankar, Collector Rajarshi Shah and Superintendent of Police Gaush Alam performed prayers at an idol placed on the premises of Sri Saraswathi Shishumandir to start the procession of the idols or Shobayatra in the town.
The procession passed through Vinayak Chow, Devichand Chowk, Ambedkar Chowk, Cinema Road, and many other important junctions of the town. Devotees danced to drum beats and devotional songs. Women presented the Kolatam dance form as part of the celebrations. Voluntary organisations provided food to the participants.
Drinking water facilities were set up for the convenience of devotees.
Around 1,000 policemen including two ASPs, seven DSPs, 17 Inspectors and 50 Sub-Inspectors were deployed on the procession routes and at venues of the immersion to prevent untoward incidents in the district. Multi Zone Inspector General of Police S Chandrashekhar Reddy supervised the security arrangements. Two control rooms were set up to monitor the situation.
Meanwhile, 2,307 idols of the Lord were immersed in seven spots identified across the banks of Godavari river in Mancherial district.
The spots included Rayapatnam bridge, Godavari Pushkara ghat in Luxettipet, Gouthameshwara Swamy temple in Mancherial, Intake well in Seetharampalli of Naspur mandal, Indraram in Jaipur mandal, Godavari bridge near Godavarikhani, Pedda Cheruvu in Chennur and Pochamma Cheruvu in Bellampalli.
Security arrangements were made using 842 policemen including four ACPs, 14 Inspectors, 19 Sub-Inspectors, 182 head constables, 366 constables, 29 women constables, 100 constables. Traffic restrictions were imposed to ensure smooth passage of procession.
Around 100 CCTV cameras were installed as part of surveillance. Expert divers were placed at the spots of immersion.
About 700 policemen were deployed for smooth immersion of around 3,000 Ganesh idols in rivers, irrigation tanks and streams in Nirmal district, while 950 policemen were placed at the venues of immersion of about 837 idols in Kumram Bheem Asifabad district.
