Karimnagar: Collector Chitra Mishra opined that over-speeding and reckless driving were causing many deaths and advised people to save their lives by following road safety norms.
The Collector, along with Commissioner of Police Gaush Alam, launched the second phase of the Arrive Alive programme taken up as part of Prajapalana Pragathi Pranalika to reduce road accidents at Ramakrishna Colony of Thimmapur mandal on Monday.
Speaking on the occasion, she announced the constitution of a road committee in the village to reduce road accidents by creating awareness among the public. Headed by the village sarpanch, the committee would educate people about traffic rules.
Stating that nothing was more precious than life, she advised people to take small precautions to save their lives and informed that a trauma care centre was established in the Government General Hospital to treat injured persons.
She wanted to educate villagers about ambulance and police phone numbers to be contacted during emergencies. Reduction of road accidents was possible only with the involvement of all sections of the people, she opined, and advised that everybody should act responsibly when coming onto the roads.
CP Gaush Alam said that instead of helping victims, people were taking photos and videos when a road accident took place. Therefore, there should be a change in the attitude of people. It was possible to save a life if victims were shifted to hospital immediately, he said.
Informing that steps would be taken to educate people about CPR and first aid, the CP advised them to utilise the opportunity. Manakondur MLA Kavvampally Satyanarayana, Additional Collector (Revenue) Laxmi Kiran, transport and officials of other departments participated.
