Warangal: With the State government’s decision to purchase the paddy crop harvested in Vaanakalam season, the officials of the erstwhile Warangal district have already started the procurement process at several centres for the convenience of the farmers. While Panchayat Raj and Rural Minister Errabelli Dayakar Rao inaugurated two centres in Jangaon district on Saturday, he opened two centres – one each in Warangal and Mahabubabad district, on Monday.
Since 3,15,189 metric tonnes (MTs) of paddy yield is expected in the Warangal district (Rural), the officials have proposed to set up 180 paddy procurement centres (PPCs). “Two of them have already commenced,” said Warangal District Collector B Gopi. Meanwhile, the officials in Hanamkonda (Warangal Urban) district proposed 150 centres expecting 3,61,035 MTs of paddy. According to Collector Rajiv Gandhi Hanumanthu, paddy is already being procured at 25 centres by Saturday itself.
In Mahabubabad, the officials have estimated a 2.50 lakh MTs of paddy yield for this season and chalked out plans to set up 231 centres. “Minister Errabelli Dayakar has inaugurated one PPC, and the remaining will be run as per the need. The number of the PPCs may be increased as per the demand,” Mahabubabad Collector K Shashanka told Telangana Today.
Meanwhile, it was decided to set up 165 purchasing centres in the Mulugu district through different agencies (Primary Agriculture Cooperative Societies (PACS)-98, Girijan Cooperative Corporation-39 and Indira Kranti Patham-28). “As on date, 126 PPCs have been permitted. But the purchasing is yet to commence. The number of PPCs may go up depending on the demand,” said Mulugu Collector S Krishna Aditya. In Jangaon, the officials have decided to set up a total of 180 centres, and some of them have already started purchasing.
However, the officials in Jayashankar Bhupalpally are yet to figure out the number of the PPCs as the harvest season is late in the district. But it is estimated that 1.65 MTs of paddy would arrive at the centres, while another one lakh MTs is withheld by the farmers for their consumption. Meanwhile, The Minister directed the officials to make all the required arrangements for the hassle-free purchase of the crop at the centres in the erstwhile Warangal district.
