Hyderabad: Nine months into the Covid-19 pandemic, government hospitals are witnessing a large number of patients, who earlier had recovered from Covid-19, with post-Covid complications. Since the first Covid-19 case reported in March, so far 2,70,883 individuals have tested positive out of which 2,60,155 have recovered in the State. Since recovery, however, many were reporting back to their doctors with complications of lungs, heart, neurological problems, weak immunity, frequent bouts of fever, cough etc.
“There are certainly long term health implications of Covid-19. Such patients must realise they must continue to take precautions like using masks and physical distancing. At Gandhi Hospital, we have set up a separate wing to cater to such patients,” Director of Public Health, Dr G Srinivasa Rao on Wednesday said. A large number of individuals, after recovering from Covid-19 are coming back to Gandhi Hospital with re-infection of lungs, fibrosis and inflammation of lungs and heart ailments.
“We have been instructing recovered patients to be in touch with doctors for at least three to six months after getting discharged. Those who have suffered a severe form of Covid-19 may have to live with health complications all through their lives. That’s the reason why we keep highlighting the need to take precautions and avoid getting infected in the first place,” Director Medical Education (DME), Dr K Ramesh Reddy said.
