Peddapalli: Cyber criminals created a fake Facebook account of Ramagundam police commissioner V Satyanarayana and posted messages seeking money from FB friends.
The cyber criminal projected himself as the police commissioner, and posted messages asking Facebook friends to send money.
He asked them to send about Rs 15,000 to Rs 20,000 through Phone Pe or Google Pay. He also asked them to send screen shots of payment transactions after depositing the amount in the account.
Based on the phone number (7409377582) mentioned in the account by the accused while asking the friends to send the amount, police carried out an investigation and traced the details of the accused.
He was identified as Mithlesh Navin, of Devganj, Mainpuri, Mainpuri district, Uttar Pradesh West.
Responding to the issue, Satyanarayana said it was a fake FB account and that he didn’t have a Google Pay account. He urged the people not to send money to the phone number mentioned in the account.
The case was handed over to the cybercrime wing and two special investigation teams have been formed to probe the case, he said and expressed confidence that the culprit would be arrested soon.
