Hyderabad: A pedestrian was crushed to death by a rashly driven truck on the National Highway – 44 in Medchal here on Friday afternoon.
The mishap occurred when the man, identified as M Prabhakar (35), a labourer, was crossing the road opposite the Medchal TSRTC bus depot.
Medchal police said the truck driver, who is yet to be identified, was driving the vehicle in a rash and negligent manner, with the victim being killed on the spot. Eye witnesses told the police that the victim’s body was dragged for a few metres from the mishap spot. Other motorists rushed to his rescue, but he had died by then.
A case of negligence causing death was booked, but the police said there was no clarity yet on the registration number of the truck and the driver, who went absconding.
“We are collecting CCTV footage on the highway and are examining it,” said M Praveen Reddy, Inspector (Medchal).
The body was shifted to the Gandhi Hospital morgue for autopsy. The incident led to a heavy traffic jam on the busy road.
