Hyderabad: Telangana government on Monday announced plans to modernise the District and Area Hospitals and Community Health Centers (CHCs) in Hyderabad and other districts, which will be simultaneously taken up with the ongoing initiative of establishing eight medical colleges, with a cost of Rs 10.84 crore.
Major modernisation works including updating infrastructure in labour rooms, augmenting drainage facilities, improving utilities including electricity supply and other major and minor civic repair works will be taken up in the coming weeks in all the District and Areas Hospitals and CHCs. The modernisation works will be carried out in four District Hospitals, eight Areas Hospitals and three CHCs in 14 districts.
Apart from Hyderabad, other districts where the repair works of Area and District Hospitals are to be taken up include Nalgonda, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Sangareddy, Nizamabad, Nirmal, Karimnagar, Mancherial, Nagarkurnool, Yadadri Bhongir, Medak, and Siddipet.
Health Minister, T Harish Rao, while reviewing the modernisation works that are underway at government healthcare facilities, on Monday said that in the coming weeks, another 20 blood storage centres will be established in Telangana.
“We have decided to establish 20 blood storage facilities in Telangana. Each blood bank will cost Rs 12 lakh. These storage facilities will be catering to the needs of patients who receive treatment in Area, District Hospitals and CHCs in 12 districts. Telangana already has 57 blood banks and 51 blood storage centres and another 20 storage facilities will further strengthen the availability of blood for emergency patients,” Harish Rao said.
The Health Minister said the ongoing Fever Survey for containment of the Omicron-driven third Covid wave is underway successfully. He directed officials to expedite the ongoing vaccination drive to ensure all the eligible beneficiaries have received the Covid vaccine.
