Hyderabad: Had enough of working from home? Once the pandemic is over, head to Uppal to work from a park. Yes, you heard it right. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation is developing a one of its kind theme park, where people can relax, plug in their laptops and work, take a quick walk break and breathe in some fresh air as well.
Spread over 2,000 square yards near the busy Uppal Junction, this lung space has exclusive areas marked for adults and children and unlike other parks in the city, has exclusive seating arrangements where visitors can sit and work on their laptops comfortably and use their gadgets too. Most of the seats and benches have a roof over them to provide shade, apart from with charging points. A walking track, washroom, plenty of greenery, two fountains, seats built with stone and wood, multiple charging points, a selfie point, tree house with slides for kids, flowering plants and colourful illumination are some of the other highlights of the park.
“The idea is to provide a work station with a lung space. Apart from residents of that locality, people heading towards the Uppal Bus Depot and Metro Station too can spend quality time in the lung space,” said Upender Reddy, Zonal Commissioner, GHMC LB Nagar zone.
The construction cost of the park is around Rs 1 crore.
“The land belongs to Survey of India, we have requested them to hand it over to the civic body for development. Within a month the park will be inaugurated,” a GHMC official said.
The theme of the park is ‘decentralisation of the IT corridor’ – a brainchild of IT Minister KT Rama Rao. In an attempt to reduce pollution and ensure IT companies are spread across the city, the State government had shortlisted 11 industrial units within Outer Ring Road which will be converted into IT towers.
As works have started in the Uppal Industrial Area, the civic body is developing the park based on the theme-decentralised IT corridor. As on date, most of the IT companies are located in the western part of the city especially in Gachibowli, Kondapur and Nanakramguda.

Key Attractions
Fountains
The lung space in the crowded junction has two fountains, the first one is built at the entrance of the park and the second one, a theme-based fountain built in the shape of a tree in the middle of the park. The aerial view of the tree fountain looks like a map of Telangana covered with green and receiving rainfall. “We wanted to cheer the Telangana Ku Haritha Haram initiative, the State will only receive adequate rainfall when green cover is maintained,” said a GHMC official.
Kids play area
Tree houses with slides are in store for kids. Apart from the two tree houses, a kids play zone is decked up with wooden seating and a worm shaped roller where children can crawl from one end to the other.
Seating arrangements
Unlike regular parks, the lung space has exclusive seating arrangements with charging facilities. The seats also have a roof to provide shade. “People can comfortably use their laptops. Some seats have been exclusively designed for gadget freaks,” an official said.
Greenery
The park in Uppal is home for dozens of trees including palm trees. The green cover inside the park consists of flowering plants too. At strategic locations, iron rods have been set up to grow creepers.
Walking track
The setbacks of the park have been converted into a walking track while there are also washrooms for visitors.
Illumination
Colourful illumination is one of the major attractions in the park. The walls of the parks are also illuminated to give the lung space an aesthetic look.
