Kothagudem: The Prime Ministers’ Office (PMO) has reportedly instructed the District Collector to look into the case of a tribal whose family was evacuated by the SCCL but was not offered employment as per a Government Order.
A tribal youth, Islavath Dileep Kumar of Yellandu, recently submitted to the PMO and to the office of the President seeking their permission to commit suicide as they lost their houses and livelihood due to a SCCL mining project.
Responding to the petition, the PMO, in an online reply to Dileep Kumar on Tuesday, told him that his grievance was forwarded to District Collector, Bhadradri Kothagudem, for taking necessary action. The complainant’s family was displaced due to the JK-5 open cast mine.
It may be noted that the GO Ms.No.34 dated April 28, 2010 issued by erstwhile Government of Andhra Pradesh prescribed implementation of Tribal Empowerment Policy wherein at least one member of the displaced family would be provided employment in the mining or industrial project.
An order by High Court issued in November, 2018, also upheld the order that those living in affected areas of SCCL mining projects and belonging to Scheduled Tribes (STs) should be provided employment by SCCL.
