Hyderabad: A local court at Medchal on Tuesday granted police three days’ custody of Bandi Sai Bageerath, the prime suspect who was arrested in the POCSO case registered at Petbasheerabad police station on May 8.

The police had arrested Sai Bageerath on May 16 and produced him before the court. The court had sent him to 14-day judicial custody in the case.

The Petbasheerabad police had filed a petition seeking his custody for further investigation into the case. The court after hearing the custody plea granted three days’ custody to the police on Tuesday.

The Petbasheerabad police had registered a case under various Sections of the BNS and POCSO Act against Sai Bageerath, and others after the mother of a minor girl had made a complaint to the police. The woman had alleged that Sai Bageerath had sexually assaulted her daughter on multiple instances.

The police after the arrest of Sai Bageerath, seized his mobile phone and found that the suspect had erased data from the phone following which the police added sections pertaining to destruction and tampering of evidence in the case.

Sai Bageerath, had approached the High Court seeking interim bail and anticipatory bail. The High Court had rejected his plea for interim bail in the case while after his arrest the application for anticipatory bail was withdrawn.
