Prabodhini Ekadashi 2024: Devotees worship Lord Vishnu to celebrate new beginnings

Hyderabad: Prabodhini Ekadashi which is also known as Deva Uttana Ekadashi is celebrated on the 11th lunar day in the Hindu month of Kartika. The day of great spiritual importance is celebrated across India on Tuesday.
This Ekadashi holds significance for Hindus as the devotees believe that the Lord Vishnu wakes up from his four-month long sleep marking an end of the Chaturmasya.
This Ekadashi signifies the completion go Chaturmasya, where auspicious ceremonies such as marriages are prohibited. The devotees believe that this Ekadashi marks the beginning of auspicious time as Lord Vishnu is said to come out of the Ksheer Sagar to take hold of the Universe again.
Devotees celebrate this day across India by observing a fast. In some parts of India, Tulsi Vivaha is also celebrated, where Shaligram (a black fossilised stone) is placed near the Tulsi plant as a symbolic act of uniting both deities in marriage.
In other regions of India, devotees perform Goddess Lakshmi puja and Lord Vishnu puja where surgarcane, rice, dried red chillies are offered to the deity.
