Practice what you preach: KTR dares Rahul Gandhi on anti-defection law

Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao on Sunday came down heavily on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his remarks on India’s electoral system and the Constitution. He asked the Congress leader whether he was ready to practice what he preached and make the 10 defected BRS MLAs resign to seek a fresh mandate.
The BRS working president ridiculed that Rahul Gandhi waves a copy of the Constitution and declares that India’s election system is dead, while the Congress government in Telangana encourages defections.
“Irony dies a million deaths. Right under his nose, his own party colleague and Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy poached 10 BRS MLAs,” he said.
Rama Rao reminded that even after a rap from the Supreme Court, the Congress party had refused to act on the disqualification pleas. He said though the Congress’ manifesto boasts of a tough anti-defection law, it was doing the exact opposite in Telangana.
“If the Congress truly believes in Constitutional values and electoral democracy, let those 10 MLAs resign and seek a fresh mandate,” he said.
