Actor Kartikeya Gummakonda will soon end his bachelorhood as he is getting married to his longtime friend Lohitha Reddy.
Recently, the actor went down on one knee and proposed to Lohitha during the pre-release event of his upcoming film ‘Raja Vikramarka’.
“This idea was to surprise her before marriage. Although we’ve been seeing each other for years, we’ve not proposed in a cinematic manner. After the event, she was surprised and said, ‘you could’ve told before, I would’ve readied well and appear!” laughs Kartikeya.
Kartikeya says his better half Lohitha is not a “movie person”.
Ask him if he had a quarrel with his fiance after the movie ‘RX100’ was released. “Even before the movie went on floors, she was sulking over with me. Later, she wanted to watch the movie, but I skipped it. Since then, she hasn’t watched it. Even if she wants to, I will make her watch it from the second half,” he laughs, adding that he wants to keep his wedding low key.
“No wedding destinations, I’d want the ceremony to be a normal one in Hyderabad. I’m not nervous for the movie nor for my marriage, both go hand in hand,” he adds.
The actor says there wasn’t resistance from either side of the family members when the topic of marriage arrived.
“I was giving hints to my parents about Lohitha soon after college. Everything went smoothly later. Lohitha was a gold medalist in the Civil Engineering branch. She is not a “cinema person” as such. We occasionally used to watch movies during college days,” he adds.
Kartikeya admits that he’s longing for a break at the box office. And his upcoming movie ‘Raja Vikramarka’ is something that he has put a lot of energy and soul into. “I would surely guard myself from what mistakes I did in my previous movies, what went wrong. It doesn’t mean that I wouldn’t face another flop. The trend of filmmaking is getting deviated. Commercial potboilers are going out of shelves, audiences like to watch fresh stories. So it’s a mixture of experimentation and creativity that augurs success, I feel. ‘Raja Vikramarka’ is again an honest attempt from us. There’s a lot of prep that went into it – for both action scenes as well as for comic sequences. The story will be pacy because of the gripping plot.”
Kartikeya says, “Certainly, every filmmaker is different from his own way and vision. Everyone gets influenced by movies that he admires over the time. Director Sri Saripalli too has that influence. He worked for a few independent films in Hollywood. His understanding of the craft is different.
The actor says maintaining a six-pack body has become a prerequisite for him. The offers that he fetched so far were because of his V-shaped chiseled body. “When I once asked Ajay Bhupathi why he had chosen me for the role. He outrightly said, “You had a good physique.” Later, he was surprised by on-screen performance and acting. Even in the upcoming Ajith starrer ‘Valimai’ in Tamil in which I am playing a role, I was chosen because of my six-pack structure. But later, I was praised for my performance on screen,” he adds.
