Hyderabad: Tanya Ravichandran didn’t even know the grammar of acting and film field when her grandfather, a veteran Tamil actor, late Ravichandran appeared as a judge in Chiranjeevi-starrer ‘Tagore’ way back in 2003. She says she wasn’t sure she would make a career as an actor in the future.
Tanya is now paired opposite actor Kartikeya in the upcoming Telugu movie ‘Raja Vikramarka’, which is scheduled to hit the screens next Friday. Tanya plays the role Kanthi, the daughter of a Home Minister who gets trapped in a serious problem only to be rescued by a police team led by actor Kartikeya.
“I like the way Kanthi has been portrayed in the film. The character Kanthi is a Bharatanatyam dancer. I’ve been a classical dancer for the past 15 years and that was also the major pull to accept the offer. And she has a very strong character. Although she looks like a simple girl, she doesn’t show any pride coming from an elite family. So, you can see me throughout the film. Like I said, commercial and drama, I want to experiment both. At the end of the day, it is acting,” she says.
Tanya made her on-screen debut in the Tamil film ‘Balle Vellaiyathevaa’ in 2016. “When I got offers, my parents were like ‘complete your studies, only then you go for films’. But I found these offers were irresistible. So, I took a chance and acted in films and later completed my PG in Master of Social Work (MSW),” she says.
The debutante was apprehensive about the Telugu language. “Just a few days before going on to the sets,” says the actor, “director Sri Saripalli ensured that I get the basic understanding of the language. With both English and Telugu versions of dialogues, I could easily understand the meaning and emote the feelings on-screen.”
The actor credits both director Saripalli and the lead actor Kartikeya. “He has a very natural approach to the craft. And it was nice working with senior actors like Sai Kumar and Tanikella Bharani,” she says, adding that she feels comfortable working in the Telugu industry and doesn’t see any difference between Tamil and Telugu now.
“Well, since I am new to the craft, I am in the process of learning. I am ready to experiment with characters and different genres. More or less, the functioning of both the industries is the same,” concludes Tanya.
